PREPARED: Pandemic pREparedness engaging Primary cARe and Emergency Departments
Enhance surveillance, improve care and health system efficiency, accelerate biomanufacturing of diagnostics, vaccines and therapeutics, and facilitate linkage to clinical trials
PREPARED is a multi-faceted initiative that engages primary care clinics and emergency departments across Canada to improve the national response to pandemics. PREPARED will create a system to alert government agencies and researchers of new pathogens and provide real-time samples for faster vaccine, treatment and diagnostic development. In addition to shielding Canada against future health emergencies, PREPARED will launch a Talent Development Program to guide the next generation of primary care, emergency care, and public health professionals. The program equips trainees with the knowledge and practical skills to understand, monitor, manage and combat pandemics and emerging health threats. Learning streams focus on surveillance, data science, implementation science, and community-based participatory research.
